YMCA of Mayfield Launches “Christmas Cares” Program to Support Local Children in Need

Beginning in December 2025, the Mayfield–Graves County YMCA proudly launched its new Christmas Cares Program, a community-driven initiative designed to ensure that every child in our area can experience a joyful and meaningful holiday season.

The Christmas Cares Program allows local organizations to refer children who may need assistance during the holidays. With the belief that everyone deserves a happy holiday, the YMCA partnered with generous local businesses and community members to sponsor children through the program. A donation of $50 sponsors one child, providing them with funds to purchase essential items and gifts for Christmas.

Thanks to the overwhelming support of the community, the YMCA was able to accept 34 children into the program this year. Sponsoring businesses include:
Snappy Tomato, Gilliam Thompson Furniture, Cupcakes Bakery and Crafts, Greer Neon Co., Castleman Tire, KY Kids Preschool, First KY Bank, West Kentucky Rural Electric, Jonah Brown Boutique, MacTech, and Signet Federal Credit Union, along with several individual donors.

Because of this generosity, each child in the program will have a significant amount of money to spend toward their Christmas needs and wishes.
Community volunteers have been assigned a child to accompany on a Christmas shopping experience. Volunteers were encouraged to help each child select a winter coat, shoes, and toys, ensuring both practical and joyful needs are met. In addition, each child is asked to choose a gift for someone else, helping teach the true meaning of Christmas — giving.

“The YMCA is deeply grateful for the businesses, volunteers, and individuals who made this program possible,” said Taylor Douglas, Childcare Director and Event Coordinator. “Christmas Cares reflects our heart for this community, and we hope this program continues for many years to come.”
The YMCA remains committed to strengthening the Mayfield community through compassion, service, and meaningful programs that support families and children year-round.
